Day 5: November 10, 2017
Memory verse: Matthew 9: 37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
Pray to be an effective witness for Jesus
1. So that we can truly dominate where we are for the Kingdom of God
2. So that we can fulfill our duty as a disciple who is on mission with Jesus
3. So we remember that God wants us to focus on Kingdom Building and not a church building
Jesus is preparing to call and send His 12 disciples into the world to preach the Kingdom of God, heal the sick and share the peace of God. Jesus makes the statement that we use for today’s memory verse prior to sending them out because He sincerely wants them (and us) to have a heart for discipleship and soul winning. Notice that Jesus never told them to pray for the harvest; He told them to pray that God would send more laborers into His harvest. The problem with soul winning is not the lack of souls to be saved; it is the lack of saints who promote Christ. Disciples have no higher purpose than to help lead the unsaved to Christ.
It is interesting that Jesus never had a building, social media, television or radio broadcasts, nor even door hangers to help promote His ministry, yet He drew 1,000’s of people to hear Him preach. His primary message was that God loves mankind so much that He sent The Redeemer to bring them back to Himself. Our primary message should be the same: God still loves mankind so much that he sent The Redeemer to bring us back to Himself. We need more people to help share this message.
We pray as if everything depends on God. We get up and live the prayer as if everything depends on us. It is not enough to know that more witnesses are needed, we have to be the answer to the prayer. That is why we are praying today to be an effective witness for Jesus.
