Day 4: November 9, 2017
Memory verse: Proverbs 25: 28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
Pray to become disciplined and focused on our God-given mission:
1. So that we do not compromise our calling from God
2. So that we maintain self-control
3. So that we do not place our desires above the will, Word and way of God
The Book of Proverbs reaches conclusions about life from a sensible and realistic perspective helping us to understand that following God’s rules seems to guarantee certain results. God provided the book of Proverbs to help us have a commonsense guide to how life on earth should be lived. One of those rules is learning how to have discipline or self-control. When we do not know how to manage ourselves, including our passions and affections, we have no guard against them controlling us. We will be prone to pride, vanity, anger and even seek vainglory.
When we lack discipline, we are like a city that has no walls of protection and expose ourselves to Satan, sin and temptation. We will develop an inward focus that only seeks to please ourselves and even become comfortable seeking our own good pleasure instead of the glory of God.
It is tempting to pursue our own agenda until we live, operate and even attend worship without restraint. That is why we are praying to become disciplined and focused on our God-given mission.
