7 Days of Prayer and Fasting: Day 6 – September 22, 2018

From September 17, 2018 – September 23, 2018 we are praying and fasting 12 hours per day (6am – 6pm) only drinking water.

Day 6: September 22, 2018

Read:  Acts 2:1 – 2

Memory verse: Acts 2: 1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

The day of Pentecost occurred 50 days after the resurrection of Jesus. For 10 days, 120 men and women had joined together in fasting and prayer in an upper room in Jerusalem out of obedience to the command of Jesus. (For more on this, See the Post from Day 5 of Prayer and Fasting: September 21, 2018.) Jesus not only desired that His disciples receive the indwelling of Holy Spirit but also the infilling of Holy Spirit. While the indwelling is given to every believer at the moment of salvation, the infilling shows that there has been a complete surrender of our will to the will of God. The infilling of Holy Spirit does not mean that we receive more of God, but that God has all of us. Jesus had prayed in John 17:11, 20-23 that His followers be one. The fact that the disciples in the upper room fasted and prayed for 10 days and became one with each other in answer to the prayer of Jesus showed that they were ready to be filled.

Jesus did not pray that we agree with one another or even like everything other people do, but that we stand together as one. Like the men and women in the upper room, we should have voluntary respect for others in the body of Christ. The Holy Spirit is represented by a dove in the Bible. Doves are symbols of peace. Holy Spirit does not come to fill us when saints are fighting and/or arguing with others; He comes when there is peace. Being with one accord does not mean that we agree on everything, but it does mean we agree on the main thing, which is love! Love increases when corporate prayer increases. If we are going to be one, there must be prayer and love.

Pray today:
1. To be one with other believers in the Body of Christ,
2. To be open for the infilling of God’s Holy Spirit, and
3. That you be used to help spread the increase of God’s love.

After you read and pray throughout the day, be sure to take time to listen for God to respond. Keep a journal to record what you hear Him say.
